An ignoble end to an ignoble season.

That’s how I would chalk it up as I was standing out front of the Sharktank watching the crowd stream out of rink after the game last night. After watching the Canucks played themselves out of the season by losing 5-3 to the San Jose Sharks, after blowing 3 consecutive leads.

I guess it didn’t help that Katy and I were standing out there wearing our Canucks jerseys.  It didn’t help we had to wait a good 10-15 minutes for Paige and Norm who were our ride to show up.

Beside the occasional jeers and scorn, most of the crowd was too elated with the victory to really take notice of the pathos of the expariate Vancouverites bemoaning the self-destruction of their hockey team.

"Have a great summer!" snarled on fan.

"Now they can get back to the golf course," derided another.

and yes the predictable "Canucks suck!" from the a few of the abrasive but more creatively challenged Sharks fans.

Unfortunately, in this case, all I could do was grimace and inwardly sigh – it was all true.  The Canucks had sucked and sucked large this year and basically imploded in the last week of the season to miss the playoffs.

I’m sure a sea of ink will be spilled to enumerating, analyzing, hypothesizing about what went wrong and what could have be done to fix it.  All water under the bridge for me right now.  Tonight, the Canucks lost my support – public humiliation will do that to a guy.  I guess I’ll have to go on cheering for Calgary, Edmonton, and should for some miraculous instance, they beat out both these teams, than may the Sharks as well.

Hockey! Aii!
